The Electoral Commission (EC) in Malawi started announcing confirmed results of the country’s presidential and parliamentary polls held on Tuesday across the south-east African state.
The results announced at the National Tally Center, Comesa Hall Blantyre, came from a few polling centers of selected districts among them Karonga, Mwanza, Machinga, Dedza, Nsanje and Machinga, where sitting President and DPP candidate Bingu wa Mutharika was leading, with his strong contender John Tembo of the MCP/UDF coalition coming second.
However, the EC said the first results received from some centers had errors, "therefore could not be authenticated and were sent back" for revision.
Meanwhile, the Malawi electoral body chaired by Justice Anastasia Msosa has indicated that the commission will give the next update of the polls at 9am following the last update at around 2am.
