District Commissioner for Mchinji, Harry Phiri has urged communities in the district to provide the necessary support to various development initiatives being undertaken in their respective areas.
He was speaking on Monday at Mafuta Primary school ground when a South Korean World Vision delegation visited some projects they sponsor in the area of Traditional Authority Mavwere in the district.
Phiri said community support to different development programmes was vital because it would go a long way to achieving meaningful and sustainable development.
“Community participation and involvement in the implementation of development projects is critical to achieving long lasting and desirable structures,” he said.
Phiri said WVI had demonstrated that it has the interest and welfare of rural people through the implementation of development activities, thereby complementing government’s efforts of improving people’s living standards.
‘’WV South Korea in collaboration with WV Malawi counterparts are determined to shaping the development landscape of the district,” he observed. However, Phiri asked pupils and students in the area to work hard in their studies to accrue more benefits from the South Korean support.
Phiri also asked World Vision South Korea to consider improving the road network in the area to facilitate easy transportation of farm produce to markets.
South Korean leader of delegation, who only identified himself as Kim and spoke through an interpreter, assured people in the area that World Vision Korea, would continue supporting them in various fields like health, education and agriculture.
He appealed for hard work among people in the district in a bid to be one of the most developed countries in Africa and the world as a whole noting that such a thing required a spirit from an individual level.
Speaking earlier, WVM operations Manager for the center and north, Dalitso Mgawanyemba thanked WV South Korea for their relentless efforts in supporting initiatives in the country.
“As a country we may not be able to give back anything tangible but our appreciation and commitment to uplift ourselves should be a yardstick for our gratefulness,” he said.
During the visit, the delegation was taken to various projects under the Bua–Mtete Area Development Programme (ADP) where WV South Korea is supporting construction of a youth centre at Kabuthu village, a primary school at Mafuta village, rice paddy and some children under orphan and vulnerable children initiative.
