Gift of the Givers Foundation is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization, which was founded in 1992 in South Africa. It is the largest internationally acclaimed Disaster Relief Agency in Africa and its presence has been felt in 23 countries worldwide. In the 2008 Diversity Leader National Awards held on November 28, the institution was decorated as the "Revolutionary NGO".
This follows its humanitarian projects in Malawi, where they are diverse, expanding, and benefiting humanity unconditionally. It provides humanitarian assistance to the needy and vulnerable in society. Overall, the organization seeks to build bridges between people of different cultures and religions, engendering goodwill, harmonious co-existence, tolerance and mutual respect.
Gift of the Givers opened its first Country Office in Malawi in 2005, when it was officially inaugurated at Zomba State House by His Excellency the State President, Dr Bingu wa Mutharika. During the launch, Gift of the Givers donated food packs worth K52 million to the People of Malawi through the Government’s Feed the nation Fund, an initiative by the State President during the country’s bad harvest period.
Since its establishment, the Malawi Office has carried out various social and humanitarian activities in the provision of food parcels, nutritional supplements, bicycle ambulances, mobile clinics for primary health care, local disaster response, provision of bicycle ambulances, distribution of treated mosquito nets to expectant mothers and newly-born babies, blankets to orphans and the elderly, boreholes to whole communities, agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, seed and pesticides as well as bursaries/tuition fees to needy students.
Aspiring entrepreneurs have also been assisted with start-up capital to set up various income-generating activities for self-sustenance.
Beyond doubt, Gift of the Givers Foundation is the “Best Among People who Benefit Mankind”.
